Maintenance Technician
CHS Hershey will be CHS’s first Center and is expected to open in 2023. The two-story, 50,827-square-foot building, located at the southwest corner of Governor Road and Homestead Road, will include a Family Resource Center, an innovation lab and an experiential learning garden. The Center will accommodate 150 students from birth to age 5 and is expected to employ up to 80 employees and volunteers.
Role Description:
The CHS Hershey School Maintenance Technician is responsible for overseeing and attending to mechanical, electrical and structural trades issues at CHS. This individual is required to have the knowledge, skill, and ability to maintain, service and repair all building systems as required. Trade disciplines relevant to this position include plumbing, appliance repair, HVAC, building automation, lighting and electrical systems and utilities. The Maintenance Technician will report to the School Operations Manager on a regular basis to discuss any updates, progress, risks, or issues.
Responsibilities:
The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for:
- Diagnosing issues with facilities systems and equipment
- Determining the proper equipment or solution to use in each setting and execute the necessary changes when needed
- Performing proactive, corrective, and preventative maintenance on all facility equipment and building systems
- Inspecting, repairing, and maintaining center plumbing equipment and appliances
- Inspecting building drain lines and grease interceptors periodically
- Inspecting, repairing, and maintaining center lighting and electrical systems
- Inspecting, repairing, and maintaining center hydronic heating system and equipment
- Removing snow in winter months
- Attending to fire alarms and access systems as needed
- Completing duties in accordance with proper safety procedures
- Completing all paperwork necessary for CHS safety maintenance records
- Remaining current with the latest equipment advancements and appropriate trades
- Maintaining all licenses and certifications needed to operate equipment
- Attending safety trainings through CHS as needed
- Working with and managing contractors hired for CHS maintenance risk mitigations
- Utilizing contractors to maintain the exterior of the center, keeping it looking sharp and visually pleasing
- Maintaining excellent relationships with all center co-workers to encourage responsibility for the center facilities among all levels of center staff
Requirements Include:
The Maintenance Technician is expected to have the following qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 2 years of technical trades training and 2-4 years of work experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques used in the installation, repair and maintenance of HVAC/R, plumbing, appliances, and electrical systems
- Valid PA Driver’s License Excellent communication and customer skills
- Ability to read, understand, and execute manufacturer’s recommendations regarding servicing and maintenance
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Responsible, enthusiastic, and cares about working in a mission-focused organization
- Demonstrated understanding of and ability to effectively work with low-income families (preferred)
- Ability to proactively identify problems and implement solutions
- Willingness to be held accountable and receive feedback
- Comfortability with technology including MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and maintenance work order reporting software (such as Peoplesoft) and/or willingness to learn
