The CCBC Theatre Program anticipates the need for an individual to prepare and teach introductory courses in Theatre as well as coach and/or direct academic theatre productions. Introductory courses include Acting for the Camera, Voice and Diction, Introduction to Theatre, and Acting I and II. Full-time faculty are required to teach 15 credit hours per semester, maintain at least one office hour per week for each course taught, remain active and current in their field, participate in college committees, and perform other duties as assigned. Additionally, full-time faculty are required to participate with program faculty in developing, evaluating, and managing courses and curricula, and to collaborate effectively with discipline colleagues and with those from other disciplines, and seek continuous improvement in teaching methodology and student success. Faculty are also encouraged to participate in program coordination and related administrative duties. This position will likely involve teaching at more than one campus.

Required

The successful candidate should have at minimum an MA in Theatre. Candidate should also have documented practice and research on acting and/or directing with an emphasis on vocal production and vocal health, with a strong background in recognized methodology, such as Linklater, Rodenburg, Fitzmaurice, Alba, Miller, Estill, etc. Faculty should have experience teaching Acting for multiple mediums, including Acting for the Camera and Voice Acting.

Preferred

MFA or doctoral degree in theatre, or an equivalent degree in a related field combined with significant professional experience is preferred. Two years teaching and/or experience working with non-traditional and diverse student populations preferred. Prior college teaching experience preferred. Additional areas of specialization including voice-over, heightened text, dialects, musical theatre performance, acting styles, intimacy direction and choreography, acting on camera are preferred, especially if the candidate can infuse these areas with methods based in global, non-western, or diasporic performance.

Class Specific Essential Duties

  1. Facilitate and support student learning and artistic expression by developing a safe, inclusive classroom environment.
  2. Facilitate and support student learning by developing and providing clear and effective instruction using traditional and technology-based instruction.
  3. Meet all classes as assigned during instructional periods. Basic teaching load is 15 contact hours each week.
  4. Communicate effectively with students by disseminating academic information including syllabi and academic policies, and by responding to e-mails and phone calls from students in a timely manner.
  5. Provide opportunities to meet with students (Office hours) at least one hour each week for scheduled or unscheduled meetings for each three credits of teaching contact hours.
  6. Provide effective and appropriate assessment with prompt qualitative and quantitative feedback.
  7. Keep instructional materials and student work organized and accessible. Maintain Learning Management System, providing students access to syllabi, grades and other supplemental course material.
  8. Support students and other college units and comply with relevant state and federal laws (nominate tutors, write letters of recommendation, refer students to counseling, assist students with special needs, suggest library purchases, help resolve registration issues, maintain student privacy).
  9. Collaborate with colleagues in ongoing curricular development including content update, curricular alignment, consistent assessment practices, and record keeping.
  10. Collaborate with staff by completing and submitting reports and documentation in a timely manner.
  11. Attend and participate in committee, departmental, College, and School meetings.
  12. Provide College and Community Service through collegial and individual initiatives.
  13. Maintain and develop professional expertise through ongoing professional development or scholarship.
