The Manager of Data Governance will serve as a key influencer and champion to introducing, maintaining and driving adoption of data governance standards across the Gannett organization. This is a key role in the Enterprise Data Management team, and this manager will serve as a trusted partner with the Director of Data Governance, Business Data Owners/Stewards, Analytics, Data Scientists, Legal, Privacy, and Technology ensuring that policies, processes, and standards are defined and adhered to end-to-end. This position will manage all aspects of formulating and carrying out Gannett’s data governance policies and practices, driving the company’s business goals and priorities.
The Manager of Data Governance will work with the Director of Data Governance to build a small team of data governance specialists inside the Data Governance Office (DGO) who have a direct partnership with our senior leaders across the Product, Marketing, Content and Revenue lines of business across our B2B and B2C businesses. The DGO is responsible for developing a strong understanding of team data requirements driving data governance and promoting education in Data Governance across the company. As such this management role will also include understanding the company’s data needs and supportive analytics strategy, working in partnership to help map data collection strategy, while providing best practices for implementation and reporting. The Manager of Data Governance will be key to managing any Data Governance Working Groups that form to solve specific business problems.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the Data Governance Office efforts end-to-end. Proactively identify data gaps, data discrepancies, misalignments and propose solution(s) to fix the issues
- Collaborate with the Director of Data Governance, data owners, stewards, information security, privacy, and Technology leadership teams to establish data policies, processes, and standards, including enforcement of data quality, security, and management concepts
- Collect requirements and inputs from business stakeholders to define data governance objectives and processes. Define interdependencies across multiple organizations, understand risks and develop mitigation plans and data models
- Document, assess, influence, and synthesize business requirements to develop, enable and advance data governance and stewardship capabilities
- Identify key data attributes that need to be monitored and establish framework for efficient governance
- Execute processes for monitoring, measuring, and reporting compliance with acceptable levels of data quality (completeness, validity, consistency, timeliness, and accuracy)
- Establish and administer an Enterprise Data Catalog as a central place providing simplified and easy to understand view/guide to the world of certified data within Gannett’s data systems
- Partner with Director of Data Governance to drive clear agendas, communications, and value for a Data Governance Board
- Effectively develop general concepts and end user training material for the successful adoption of Data Governance Program objectives and the Enterprise Data Catalog tooling
- Partner with Data Privacy team to define and enforce clear data access policy in line with Data Classification standards
- Partner with Data Engineering team to research and experiment with emerging Data Quality technologies and tools associated with data quality, metadata, data governance
- Partner with Director of Data Governance to develop KPIs and dashboards to measure the success of data governance programs.
- Drive enthusiasm around the value of Data Governance for the organization
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in information systems technology or a related business degree from an accredited institution of study
- 5+ years of experience in a combination of data analysis, data quality, stewardship, data governance, business consulting, business intelligence, business insights, statistical analysis or other related domains
- 2+ years of experience leading and managing a data team team/function
- Experience in establishing and successfully leading a Data Governance Office with heavy emphasis on developing and implementing data standards, policies, practices, and procedures that lead to substantive improvements in data integrity and to an overall data culture at Gannett
- Experience with any Data Governance tools (Collibra, Alation, Talend, Precisely, Informatica, etc)
- Solid grasp of Data Governance principles, supporting technology and implementation models
- Demonstrate exceptional communications skills, both written and spoken, as well as being able to present complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a comfort interacting with clients from the C-suite to marketing managers to technical specialists
- Inspiring manager with a driven, results-focused attitude that can drive multiple large initiatives concurrently across cross-functional teams (Product, Marketing, and more).

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $90,000 and $213,900. Variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location, and union representation, if applicable.
