Job Description
COMPUTATIONAL TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, McGovern Institute for Brain Research, to oversee an array of technology development initiatives within the Abudayyeh-Gootenberg Lab, focusing on gene therapy, cell therapy, protein evolution, and climate change and sustainability. The projects involve exploring prokaryotic and eukaryotic genomes for innovative proteins and enzymes applicable across various domains. Will employ state-of-the-art artificial intelligence algorithms to identify and optimize new protein systems for enhanced functionality. Responsibilities include managing extensive data on computing clusters, developing pipelines for data processing, and presenting results for experimental scientists to investigate in the lab.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a scientific or engineering bachelor’s degree in computer science, computational biology, bioengineering, or a related field; a minimum of two years of relevant research experience (can be research experience gained as an undergraduate); comfort working in teams; excellent organizational, planning, time-management, and communications skills; an interest in both executing independent projects and collaborating as an integral part of a cutting-edge research team advancing research in a dynamic setting; and familiarity with programming languages such as Python or R, and bash scripting. PREFERRED: knowledge of and experience with relevant techniques in computational biology such as sequencing analysis pipelines or single-cell data analysis; and experience with machine learning.
