Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Manager in University Dining Services.
Primary Job Duties: Under the direction of the Commons Manager, the Assistant Manager will lead one or more service and/or production areas of responsibility within the University's Dining Hall, ensuring adherence to operational standards established internally by the Director and Executive Chef. Responsibilities include overseeing the operations, ensuring exemplary customer service and responsibility for University resources; managing staff to high standards that reflect favorably on the University's reputation; ensuring employees follow policy and practices related to uniforms, safe food handling, cleanliness and sanitation; balancing staffing for development and efficiency; recruiting and engaging a student workforce for advocacy and efficiency during peak periods of sales; making staff assignments and schedules designed for productivity; providing mentorship for leads and staff that reinforces customer service at highest levels; setting expectations, provide training, reward performance and correct deficiencies utilizing the progressive discipline process.
Minimum Qualifications: Three to five years of experience in a food service environment and an Associate’s degree or educational equivalency. ServeSafe Managers certification completed prior to or within six months of hire.
Must be detail oriented and have excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem solving, follow through, time management, and oral and written communication skills. Also, must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure, work independently and in a team-oriented environment. Must be able to work nights and weekends on a rotating basis to meet the needs of the operation. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Supervisory experience in a standardized food service operation. Higher Education experience. Bachelor’s degree or formal culinary training.
This is a full-time, exempt State position with a full benefits package. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is considered essential and may be called upon to provide emergency coverage when necessary.
