Job Summary

The Impact and Prosperity Epicenter is seeking a highly motivated and creative student to work up to 20 hours/week as a Social Media Intern. This role will be responsible for managing, creating, engaging with, and tracking content across all platforms. You'll have the opportunity to make this role your own and elevate the Epicenter's social media presence to the next level.

Intern may be asked to visit onsite activities to gather materials needed for communication channels as well as attend some meetings in person.

Responsibilities

Project Coordination: The Communication and Social Media Intern controls large portions of the daily activities of all center social media under the direction of the Director of Marketing ensuring schedules are maintained and deadlines are met. This position is responsible for the status of assigned jobs at all times and ensures all work has been appropriately reviewed before publishing.

Social Media Publishing: The Communication and Social Media Intern executes approved deliverables through publishing approvals workflows. This position is responsible for ensuring that posts go out as planned on designated platforms with utmost accuracy, which includes occasional weekend and evening work.

Community Management: The Communication and Social Media Intern engages with the Epicenter's social media community by responding to comments, questions, replies, DMs, tags, and more across all posts and platforms. The Communication and Social Media Intern is also responsible for troubleshooting inappropriate content by hiding and deleting comments. The Communication and Social Media Intern employs excellent grammar skills and authentic brand voice to participate in social media conversations. Intern will produce reports outlining social media and other communication engagement, i.e. tracking number of followers, number of posts, responses).
  • Manage Impact & Prosperity Epicenter social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter) professionally and consistently.
  • Create original written and graphic content for social media posting that corresponds to our overall marketing strategy.
  • Work closely with the field building graphic design team and the field building social media team to strategize social campaigns and approve content.
  • Support and strategize with all teams across the Epicenter (Sorenson Impact Institute and Center for Business, Health, and Prosperity) to amplify various projects and updates.
  • Measure basic social media metrics and report on performance of social media platforms weekly.
  • Manage and edit social media content calendar.
  • Maintain brand quality and alignment across all social media posts and post content in a timely manner in accordance to the scheduled deadlines.
  • Lead and/or assist with creating social media campaigns for various projects.
  • Contribute to blogs/articles on diverse array of issues and topics.
  • Provide training and insights to Epicenter staff on best social media practices.
  • Liaise and work with other social media team members on the delivery of key projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Currently an undergraduate / graduate student with more than two semesters before graduation.
  • An interest in social media strategy, marketing, data analytics, and social impact projects
Experience and Skills:
  • Previous professional work experience in social media / marketing
  • Knowledge in Adobe photoshop and the ability to develop graphics using Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop (preferred) or Canva.
  • Understanding of how to use the G-Suite platforms.
  • Ability to work as part of a broader team and independently
  • Ability to use excel and other Microsoft resources.
  • Able to manage multiple deadlines and projects in collaboration with team members
  • Effective communicator across different channels (phone, video conference, and email)
Role requirements:
  • Must be able to work 20 hours per week for a minimum of 2 semesters
  • Must be involved and participate in weekly Social Media strategy meetings.
  • Ability to work both in office at the University of Utah and remotely.
